Something I have been meaning to ask for ages.
On my 3 stage charger it has a switch for Flooded or Gel battery. I have a sealed AGM battery but it has no labels...are these Gel?
Does it make much difference what you have the switch on?
Hi Adam, not knowing the specs for your particular charger but most gel and AGM batteries maximum charge voltages are pretty well the same and MUST NOT get an equalising charge cycle because it can cause the battery to gas and this damages sealed type batteries, gels or AGMs.
Whereas normal wet cells will still gas, but because you can top them off with more water, this cycle will not harm them and is used to help desulphate the battery, something that is not a problem with sealed batteries and therefore no reason to use this cycle.
So by selecting the Gel setting, will make sure there is no equalising cycle
Cheers and hope this helps.
