Question Rear suspension mods rear disco2(sl)

Hi, new to the site, and I'm chasing any info on what there is available to upgrade or remove the rear airbags out of disco2. I would prefer to go coils allround as less things to go wrong. Have allready had some landaches with this one and we,re at the crossroads of whether to keep or sell. Have spent alot of money on this car so far. Just replaced gearbox (auto) at 125000kms but needed to be done. Also interested in taking off steps and putting on rock/tree sliders similar to scorpion racing uk. Any other mods worth doing please let me know as I to have been bitten by that mysterious landrover bug .

I have used my Disco for both seriouse offroad and touring and I LOVE my rear SLS. It doesnt matter how you load up the back, it all just comes up level.
I have had a couple of problems with it but I put up with it for the benefits I get. My main insurance is that I carry a spare airbag which I got off Ebay for $40 and a manual inflation device which means I can pump up the airbags using my tyre compressor if the SLS compressor ever fails.
As far as I know there are no other improvements for them.

Don't have factory SLS airbags but have a coil sprung 2" liftted D2 and love it to pieces. I also run Polyairs in the rear for when it is loaded for a big trip and they work sensationally and are very reasonably priced IMO for what you get and what they do.
A guy in our club has SLS on his D2 and likes it as he tows a boat and caravan so works well for him. I don't know much about what is involved with replacing the SLS but if you tow regularly a boat, caravan or trailer then give some thought to that otherwise PM me as I have a set of 2" above standard Old Man Emu rear springs sitting in the garage doing nothing.

I have the sls and bought a kit to raise it 2" also made a fitting to manaul inflate the bags one other mod I did was put a speed controller between the compressor and the valves so the air flow is unrestricted when the bags are inflating but is resricted when deflating.

The reason I did this is I noticed when going down a steep slope this would raise the rear which would cause the ECU to let air out of the bags,of course then if you had a steep slope to then climb the back would be lower then the compressor would start to inflate the bags again, more noticable when full of camping gear since I have done this mod the compressor does not work as much and cost $40 to do and 1/2 to do
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

    Come on Stevo!!!
You can't talk about some mod you've made then not share the photos/details/cost/etc...
    Not fair!!!

I'd look for some firestone airbags if you're worried, and keep the compressor out of the mud.
    Cheers

I am also interested in Stevos modification. He has mentioned it to me before but I haven't kahunas to guess my way through it.

Hi stevo, I to am very interested in the mod to the compressor and where do I go to get the 2" spacers for the SLS. What rock sliders did you use and did you take them to bare body or to the plastic shrowd below the doors and above the factory steps?

Dranged on this forum (as do many other) does some great sliders for a D2. I have a set and they bolt directly to the chassis rail and do away with the plastic side skirt altogether. This gives me much better ramp over angle and as they bolt straight to the chassis rail they is zero room for movement and therefore more strength IMO. They also act and gully fenders and side steps.

Dranged should have some pics if you pm him and the last time I spoke to him he had a couple of sets left to go before his next batch are made.

P.S. I don't get anything for endorsing these but I simply have some of them and they work great and are very reasonably priced.

    Good luck, Mick
