most likley the cross pin in the diff center!
you might have arsed it by not having any damage, or you could have chewed up the cw and pinion ect ect...
cheers phil
Just spent a few days from Sydney up in Coffs, got some good wheeling in whilst up there.
On the highway home I was happily overtaking someone and lost all drive,
Coasted to the hard shoulder and the vehicle would only move in 4wd
Both tail shafts turned but only the front wheels would spin.
Pulled the axles both were fine but as the short side axle came out there was the noise of something dropping, I pulled off the tail shaft and continued home on the front diff alone.
Before I pull the diff out later today anyone got a hint what it might be?
Strange thing was there was no bang or anything!
Dunno if it helps but its a '95 300Tdi Disco
Cheers
Paul

This happened to me 2mths ago and yes it was the shaft in the centre it just snapped all the bits just dropped and there was no damage to the crown wheel and pinion, lucily i had a spare centre and just swapped that in.
Being hopeful its just the pin then!
Well...
The centre is out,
The pin has gone so the gears were loose in the bottom of the housing, along with chunks of broken bits.
The gears are stuffed, chewed to bits, and the pinion bearing grinds if you turn it.
On the plus side, its an ideal time to fit a locker!
