If it was made for Super it might need a higher octane fuel than standard unleaded.

Having said that IIRC isn't there an octane setting adjustment on either the carb or the distributor? I thought I read that somewhere in a magazine.

as far as I know they run just fine on unleaded. some additive or atf if you are worried, but I wouldn't be too stressed. I know that they generally go better on 95 octane, but they can use fuel as low as I think 70 octane according to the manual.

if its got the hardened valve seats you just run anything you like from premium to denutruted alcohol, you just need to squdge the timing abit inbetween..

If you dont have hardened seats and valves yet, run what you like any way and when the valves go dead I'll redo it for ya with stainless valves and hardened LPG seats.

I used to run bug one on unleaded with about 500ml of dieso mixed into the 60l tank.

Any fuel will do, they're made for running in 3rd world environments. The poorer the fuel the more advanced the timing (see the manual). They do go really well on the Hi Octane stuff, if you can afford it. I accidentally filled a 1960 SII with Hi Octane fuel once and it cut 15-20min off a 1 hour trip.
