    TD5 longevity

I know that this has been covered on the TDi now is the time for the TD5.

I have been looking for a TD5 Discovery for some and have found some nice machines however their mileage is between 150 to 190k kms.

    Is this problem?

Some of the higher mileage machines have been off-road but have all the accessories eg CDL, bullbar, snorkel etc.

Others are highway use but not accessorised.

Service history is important, this I know but how well do the motors and auto boxes hold together?

I would not buy a second hand Td5 that was older than a '03 model or with more than, say 50k on the clock.

Actually, I wouldn't buy a second hand Td5, I hate this engine with a passion.

    Edit: Actually, I wouldn't buy a NEW Td5 either!

I don't if this is a good thing or not but according too LR UK, the TD5 was designed to last 350,000 miles, or 580,000ks give or take a few Ks.

Whether it does or not or even longer maybe, they are a good engine, but like anything there's always one bad apple, well maybe 2

140,000Ks on mine and it's fine so far and mines chipped, has larger tyres tows a block of flats (everywhere) and heaps of gear in the storage drawers

I've done 95,000 and no major dramas (shouldn't have said that)
    All sorts of driving conditions.

This one has 140,000 and has never had a drama, always dealer serviced - buy it - you know you want it - and it's a steal at this price

Yep - 170 000k's and no major dramas, apart from normal wear-and tear. Plan to keep her a fair bit longer as well!
