i agree with you about coopers not chipping as much.
Friends I reguarly travel with (in Vic high country) get little or no chipping from their coopers...
thats what i'm going for next time.:)

Coopers will always be controversial I think.
This trip was a few 000 kms of dirt, gravel & sand, up through the Flinders across the desert etc.
A Disco 200 tdi & a petrol D3 had them. Can't recall whether they were Sts or STCs, or indeed something else, but they both showed signed of chipping before any other cars.
Wasn't the delamination issue limited to one batch? Or a recall? Again can't recall.
Anyway, the silent armours seem to be wearing well. I run a few sets depending what I'm doing, so can never tell what the mileage really is.

I had them on my Disco 300Tdi and wasn't impressed with their wearing at all. 44000klms and they were stuffed.
I've got General Grabber TR's on the Defender Td5 (for sale, excellent condition) that were the original fitting and they've now done 65000klms with no real wear but some slight damage from the GRR.
I'm that impressed I've just had a full set of Grabber AT 2's put on the other Defender.
Alan.
Coopers will always be controversial I think. Biggest con with Coopers is their "warranty"

Yes in theory, I know a number of Cruiser drivers in town have suffered from it but they weren't the ones I the recall. I suspect it is more wide spread but also in the Cruiser sized tyres.
Good to hear they do wear well.
Have found with my coopers that if you run high pressures like the book says they chip real bad but run em allot lower off road and they hold together and have allot better wear than the bfg i have run previous
I am just weeks away from choosing between bfg A/T and coopers ATR. I have been watching other 4wd sites and as above some say bfg chip and others say coopers chip and that's apperantly comparing both these different tyres on the same trucks on the same trips on the same terrain.
Well I tell you I am that confused now I think I will just about flip a coin to decide as I have not had either of these tyres.
I would go for the silent armour but I don't think they are available in 245/ 70/ R16 which is what I want.
I'll throw in a vote for both Cooper and BFG AT, that said I believe the BFG's are made in Asia and in the States, depending on size. As said before the Asain ones don't hold up well at all but the ones from the state's are very good.
Can't remember where from now but there was a way of knowing which I thought at the time it would be stamped in to the side of the tyre (made in etc etc) but might not be that easy.
I have had a great run from both brands, we do a lot of rocky/shale driving here and I reckon the coopers (ST) have stood up better than the BFG's I had. (The Cooper STC are meant to be better again at chip resistence.)
Sorry should also add I have a mate with a GQ ute that is now on his third set of Coopers as he has been very happy with them and most of his 4x4 driving is a station in the Flinders with few tracks.
They do not have any rocks in England. They all sank in the mud or the natives in 1000BC carted them off and put them in piles.
I have had about 6 sets of BFG ATs , starting in 1977 with the first fabric ones. I have NEVER had a puncture off road including Simpson blah blah..
My rears with a Detroit locker did chip quite a bit in the Brindabellas, but nothing that made them not fit for purpose.
I have a set of 245.75x16 at present and I am sh1tty that they are no longer available.
Looked at Coopers but they were dearer at the time so why risk it. In the past Coopers have been much cheaper in UK so you have to make the choice based on the situation there. But if they are cheap in UK , why are they dear in Australia?
