If one side is worn the other probably is too .

A weep will affect how well they work but if you loose the fluid from any piston in the front brakes you also loose your front brakes the rears will still work but that`s all .

Range Rovers have similar brakes but in the front they use 4 pistons in the primary circuit and 4 pistons in the secondary circuit . So there is some front braking in both circuits .

Discoverys use all 8 pistons in the front brakes .

Pretty important to do it right but as i say only suggesting .

    Cheers
I'mpretty sure that ALL LR products that have 4 pistons per caliper front brakes have a primary and secondary circuit top and bottom like you described for the RR Classic....... bthe 4 pot calipers are the best brakes to have IMHO!

    brake pistons

    Pete
if you need to replace all pistons these should be worth checking out
I bought complete brake replacement piston kits with seals in stainless steel (made in England) for our Defender fronts x 4 piston rears x 2 piston from British 4wd in Tassie (I think they may be sponsors on this site) for $478.50 delivered to the front door less than $40 a piston

Master Cylinder Exchange Service, Wynnum Road, Wynnum North. For stainless steel sleeves in master cylinders, wheel cylnders, calipers. Contact proiprietor Wally Pushkey, for first class service, exchange or your original repaired. Wally played hooker for Valleys and built and rode a small block Chev drag bike. Cheaper than NOR replacements and last forever. Word of warning, don't go the knuckle with Wally. This would be like taking a pen-knife to a shotgun fight.

    Hi PLR,

I have managed to find a 2nd hand non-leaking set of 2 calipers from a guy in Sydney for $80 so I imagine that I can use my IBS kit in those if need be.

I had lined up another caliper but it turned out that it was a single hose only type, not the twin hose model which I have.

The IBS kit is the right one, 998S, I checked that too as I thought I might have been given the wrong one.

No, I haven't changed the pads, they are only about a month old but I am going to try the thinner pad idea and see what happens. However the bore is leaking even at rest, in fact 500mls will travel through the system and out into a drip cup overnight!

Basically I was putting the fluid back into the system in the morning and topping up what I lose during the day, not a great scenario but you gotta do what you gotta do to keep going right?

Anyway, the "new" calipers should arrive by the end of the week and I'll replace my faulty one first and then experiment on it out on the bench with a small pump as I want to find out exactly what was wrong and post the answer for those that might be interested.

    Cheers, Pete.
