any tricks to get decent heater in Defender

    Hi all,

does any one know if any thing can be done to get some decent heat out of the 130 defender heater, especially coming into winter and around the high country its the only downfall of the 130.

    Thanks
    Scotty

The heater in my 300Tdi Defender works really well and fast. I've heard a lot about poor heater performance in the Defenders, but if some can work so well, then could it be that they can all work so well with some adjustment?

Are the hose taps perhaps not opening enough to allow adequate water flow to the heater? Can the heater benefit from some sort of flush?

I'm just thinking aloud here, but how could two of the same be so different?

Ours works pretty well too. But I guess it's still pretty new. There is plenty of time for it to play up yet

Simmonites (UK) sell a high output heater matrix which replaces the standard unit and reputedly is much more effective. I have bought one but not yet fitted.

"No longer do you have to put up with poor heating in your Landrover Defender, This high output heater matrix has a much tighter finning. Giving more heat to the cabin."

To get at least 2-3 times as much heat out of the heater, remove the stupid bloody outlet/diverter covers from the outlets under the dash! Mine is now like having 2 hair dryers going full bore on the driver and front passengers feet, bloody lovely even with snow outside. This works with a series 3 as well. I cant for the life of me work out why they put restricters on the heater vents. The demister still works fine too.

mine works fine too, and it regularly gets down to -6 or -7 around here in winter. There aren't any taps on the water side of things, a flap opens and closes to let air circulate through the core is how it works, so I'd be checking that out.

FWIW, a common problem in summer is the sealing foam deteriorating around the bottom of the core where it hangs through the box and letting hot under bonnet air into the fresh air circuit. In some cases even the air conditioning can't keep up with the hot air flow. I suppose it's possible that the reverse can happen in winter and it be cold under bonnet air ???
