don't those instruments get their signal from a cable that attaches to the back of the altenator, check that.
Was out playing on Sunday with some nice people from this forum, and lost my speedo, and trip odometer. The one fuse that shows a speedo inside the panel looks O.K. Have not pulled all the fuses to check them. What do I look for, and where under the car do I look, to see if I knocked something loose at the "driveline" end? My autron cruise control does not work also. Have GPS to at least give me an accurate speed, but I miss my cruise control.

Thanks for any help, from a mechanical novice.

Mine did the same ... its a fuse .. I was dicking about with something in my fender and blew it.
Check all the fusesI forget which one is doing it ... also ... check the 4 under your seat!
Thanks Ladas, and everyone that replied. Well I had a quick look, and found a stick wedged up between the transmission and the parking brake housing on the drive shaft. the sensor was hanging down, and no internal bits. If it is like others, there would be some kind of mechanical object that activates the electrical sensor. Looks like I need to get a new one. One more question. Access is very limited, do I need to drop the shaft, and hand brake drum to gain access? Is there a special tecnique to putting it back in? Do I need to look inside to see if anything i.e. parts are flinging around inside?
Thanks,
Ken
Bet ya was hoping it was a fuse...
i don't have much info, but from the page on the parts cataloge, it looks fairly simple
And the term transducer - to me anyway, tells me, that in 'senses' the speed, not measures it from a drive or cog.

Normally they are an electro-magnetic switch,no moving parts. If it looks complete try refitting it and see if it works.
SOUNDS EXPENSIVE!!!!

Had the sensor replaced this morning. Oh how I long to have my garage finished so I can work on it myself. Not game to do much work out in the street. The sensor was broken in half. and there is a green plastic piece that transmits mechanicaly to a sensor to be converted into an electrical impulse. All up about $150 including removal of the old part, that was still bolted onto the transmission, and fitting a new one. Not too bad considering it's a Land Rover. The price is still cheaper than a speeding fine without my cruise control.
Thanks for all your help,
Ken
