    Poly Air Bags

This morning i walked out to my 1999 TD5 and the rear end had sagged right down !! This is the first time it has done this so i stared up the car and in about 10mins it all leveled out back to the way it should be. Can any body point me in the direction of what might have happened (Landrover just said bring it in and they'll replace the bags for $1500.00 F*&^ me but that sounds a bit rich) any comments would be great

I have heard of them leaking from the part where the pipe joins the airbag.

When they are pumped up, get a small hand sprayer (like use for domestic cleaning products) and fill with a rich washing up liquid and water mix.

Spray the air bags and see if you can see any bubbles.

If there were a permenant leak they would keep going down.

Also you might want to check the supply pipe/s for damage or blockages,

Check the filter on the air intake,

Or of course the air valves on the compressor could be faulty, or the compressor itself.

If u find the bags are going pourous and leaking in various places, you can try tyre slime in the bag, i have done it with mine, its a simple job to do, but i dont know how long it will last, mines held up find for a few months now but i am planning on replacing them. you can buy the bags cheap from various places and they are easy to swap (you can pick them up for about 300 a bag)

Just try the spray bottle trick first up as mentioned - jack it up pull the back whees off and spray the bags with soapy water you will see it easisly if they are leaking.

To remove them jack up the car and support the chassis with stands and lower the diff, leave you drivers door opened so the car doesnt try and pump the bags (sls doesnt function with a door open) get under the passenger side and open up the compressor box (2 flat blade screws) on the front end of the box you will find a vavle block thing with 3 airlines, i think its the 2 outside ones that run to the bags undo these - becareful not to thread the valve block - this will let the bags down, then squeeze the remaining air out of the bags, the bags are held in with 2 little speed clip things on the top, the base just turns 90dg and pulls off. The air line screws into the top, if you go with the tyre slime idea you just need to put about 150-200ml into the bag and roll it around to cover the inside of the bag or just replace the bag that leaks.

after that just put it back together drop the car down, close the doors and start it up, it should pump up. Mine takes about a minute to reach standard height again.
