03-'04 TD5 issues - even if never taken off road??

Well, I have sold my car and am now officially in the market for an 03-04 TD5 Disco II. Prolly aiming at the SE model as it has ACE, 7 seats and SLS.....

Am I right in saying that the 03-04 model engine head does not suffer the same fate as earlier models?

Also, I know everyone has leaks with their rigs but if I buy one that has not been taken off-road, can I still expect the usual issues (oil in wiring loom, leaky simp, etc) or are most of the issue related to these rigs as a direct result of hard use and lack of proper maintenance?

    Cheers

so far most of the fualts Ive seen or heard of are not so much a preventative maintenance issue but a nature of the beast thing... (exlcluding things like loctiting the oil pump bolts thats manufacturer stupidity in my book)

Big red hasnt missed a beat and has had less than an easy life but good looking after..

there are some things that could be negated by exceptional attention to maintenance but they are beyond what I would call "routine operator maintenance amd checks"

An example of what im talking about
The exhaust manifold gasket thing is one, I put a spanner on the nuts on mine every time I take her off the road for any servicing/routine inspections.

effectively this means about every 8 weeks the hood goes up and a set of spanners is applied to bits and pieces.

I wouldnt expect that the usual TD5 engine related issues would be related to off-road use.....

Dust or water ingestion are the only engine related things I can think of in terms of off-road use.

Thanks Dave. I am going to have a look at a few this weekend. I'm also going to be looking at Audi Allroads - I don't ever have to touch them

Tightening components every 8 weeks The more I read the more I'm turned off......

    Only if you are obsesive/compulsive.

We have a 03 SE7 TD5, which does a little off road from time to time.

Only problems we have had are the
    fuel reg leak- wty
    fuel tank recall
    fuel door solonoid - wty
    missile horn buttons - wty
drink holder failure front & back - wty

Other than that its been a good vehicle. Works hard towing horse floats and campers etc.

    Bloody cheaper than an Audi

    Regards justin
