    Discovery 1 Roofrack

Hi - does anyone have the full length roofracks that follow the contour of the roofline on a Discovery ?? If so who makes them, do you like them and what is the approx cost ? I have the two rails on the roof - are these hard to remove ? Also would an ARB 1/2 roofrack fit without having to take off the roof rails ??
    Thanks for your help.

Mine doesnt follow the contour but is full length, built by tradesman but any manufacturer of steel racks could build one.

As far as I know the rails are a bugger to take off as I didnt have them on mine to start with and the ARB half rack was on one with roof rails at Wandin this year or last.

I have an alloy one that follows the roof contour. It was made by Formula Offroad (http://www.formulaoffroad.com.au/). It's reasonably light but rated to 200kg (not that I'd ever put that much on it). I don't know what they cost to buy new as I bought mine second hand from Incisor.
My car has never had the factory racks so I didn't any clearance issues. A rack that does not follow the roof may be better so that you can retain the factory racks.

Safety Devices make the original contoured roof racks for the Discovery. There are two variants, the first allows the use of the sunroof and the roof bars. The second does away with both.

We see them going in Europe on Ebay for stupid money.

Personally I think the quality of finish is rubbish, you be better off with an ally controured one like the TJM or Patriot.
I've seen a few SD racks where the powercoat is coming offf in large flakes. I've also seen the light mounting tabs falling off through constant lights vibration.....

    Regards.

Thanks for the info - having done a bit more research, it seems that if I want to fit a full length contoured rack I would have to remove the original bars which involves removing part of the headliner - something I dont want to do as it has just had a new headliner installed apparently. I might have to look at a smaller ARB type rack for the back.......
