The snorkel on my TD5 has the ducting that bends down to a drain point. I would reckon this is would catch rain water drive in whilst driving. Better there than in the filter housing.
Sorry for the bombardment of questions of late, but I'm trying to get everything done in a short space of time so I can actually use the Defender!
I've got a new snorkel to go on, and it comes with a flexible hose for connecting from the inside of the snorkel to the air intake on the bottom of the filter box. Now, on my 300TDi there is already trunking (though slightly squarer and with what I assume is a water drain too) going form the internal plastic fitment on the wing to the bottom of the air filter box.
So, question is, should I remove all of this and just run the new hose directly from the snorkel to the filter box, or simply use the existing ducting and just mount the snorkel externally and seal it to the wing so it then flows air into it?

Thanks....turns out I do connect to this same as your TD5 - there was a second, vehicle specific, instruction sheet my wife had helpfully tidied to my office tray in between me opening the box (and leaving everything strewn across the floor as you do) and getting back from the school run with the kids . Now I have to put that connector/water trap back on, and getting it off was the hardest part of the job. Still, everything else went smoothly and looks good though.![]()
