95 fender 130, 300tdi, battery light

So Ive finally seen the light and upgraded the 95 tdi disco (350,000km) to a 95 130 dual cab.
Drove it from Kiama to Cairns in two days, ran like a champion.

At time of purchase I noticed the battery warning/ alternator light was on dimly, figured it was either the battery or alternator reg, light faded as revs increased. Carried another battery for the trip just in case and am just sorting it now along with a few other things for rego in QLD.

So the idle regulated voltage is 14.2V, which seems pretty good to me. I put a fully charged battery in and the warning light still comes on at idle, but fades as revs increase, never fully extinguishes (can only notice this at night though). Im thinking it could be in the warning circuit. Any clues before I start diving into a wiring diagram.

btw I am wrecking the 95 disco with all sorts of good bits, rear maxidrive, ARB bar, 50L sill tank... tried to post in the markets but wasnt allowed? How do I obtain permission to post?

Swap over the alternater from the disco, see if that fixes your problem. it does sound like an alternater fault.

Apart from loose connections, and of course the chance that the alternator is faulty, there is very little else.

There is an in-line resistor in the circuit - which lives behind the facia (RH side - basically behind the steering wheel)

There is naff all else on the diagram

Oh yes and a diode in a similar position to the resistor

It will have a blown diode in the reg, is pretty common with all mechanical regs but not so much with solid state which it should be.

I may just fling the disco alternator across and see if that changes things.

Fender is in getting inspected for roadworthy atm so will soon find out what else needs to be done.
