    TC & ABS Problem

    Dear all
i urgently require your help and guidance to solve another mistery in my Disco series II model 2001 and had almost 145K on it.

like 2 weeks back i took the family to the beach where u can take ur car on sand and park it next to you , in fact its barely like 150m from tarmak , so we went in and swam and on the way out somethin strange happened. when the wheel are about to spin instead of the TC getting to work it was the ABS at start i thought its a software glitsh as usual in those new cars so i switch it off at the spot and restarted same problem remained and still till today.

can any one help me out here do any one have any idea or faced such a problem on what can be the problem and what might be the remedy knowing that its too rare to find out some who knows about those car with all respect to all work shops here and elsewhere and so many others especially when it comes to discovery and as for the dealer well its a 2001 car with no warranty and had done like 145,000 KM on it so taking it to the dealer would problem mean that i had to sell that car the house and take a personal loan for another 4 years to be able to pay the bill.

so any feed back is HIGHLY appreciated.

    all the best
    Sharbel

    What does this mean
"when the wheel are about to spin instead of the TC getting to work it was the ABS"
Are you saying that the ABS was cutting in and stopping the car??

Yes perfectly right and u can even feel the brake pedal jumping as it does when ABS is activated resulting that car would stop

Does the TC light come on?
Does the ABS light come on?
Is the ABS light on all the time now?

The traction control uses the ABS to apply the brakes to the wheel that is spinning. This is when you feel the ABS pump opperate. This is normal but others have said that the traction control is no use in the sand as it will be continually applying brakes to each wheel, the net effect is that the vehicle will stop.
I have not yet driven my TC equiped Land Rover off road.

I have heard that a crook speed sensor can do this but usually the lights come on to indicate a fault,is there a gravel road you can test it on,from a stop floor it to get wheel spin if the TC is working the light should come on.

On another website there was someone who had a freelander and every now and again the abs pump would start to work and slow the car down turned out there was a crook speed sensor,

Have you tried lowering your trye pressure to around 16PSI when on the sand?? as some have pointed out TC is no good on sand you would be better off getting a CDL kit to lock the transfer case and then you could turn off the ABS,TC and HDC

i used to go offroad with it, and surely as u said the TC is not the perfect solution but it used to work with no problem with the wheel would spin the TC would go in action and ABS would work only when i hit the brakes . this time no light is coming no any indication and if i drive in any bit of sand or take a hard curve (before the TC would work) now the ABS would work and u can feel that the car is hitting the brakes HELP!!!!!!!!!

going around a hard curve makes it come on left hand or right hand or both, now there is a chance that it has a broken wire going to the speed sensors on the front wheels you will need a multimeter to test these and move the wire near the hub where the sensor is mounted into the hub if the reading changes on the multimeter then that is the problem, also check for movement in the front wheel bearings if they are loose that can change the signal to the ECU
