There could be a bit of confusion here.

    The Altenator type should be a A127 - 100amp.........................

However it states in the w/shop manual that the output for that unit is........................

    65 amps .............figure that

The tdi defender should be 65amp the disco should be 100 amp because of all the electrics the disco runs they need a higher out put alternator
When i replaced the alt on my defender i put a a 100 amp alt which is the same as a ford transit van

    Yeah i remember well Lokka.

Mine was $330 reco'd from All 4x4 Spares in Newcastle, i didnt have much choice cause i needed to get home, i think they could do a new one for $425, this was after they quoted lokka $550, when he told them he could get it for $356 from a place in sydney the price came down to $425, amazing that. I had my 100 amp replaced with a brand new one at Range Rov in Mitcham a month or so ago for around $450.

Apparently the V8 ones are much more expensive - something to do with a special/different mounting bracket. So when getting a quote make sure you say it is for a TDi Disco. ( even that doesn't register with them sometimes in those Repco/Burson places depends who is behind the counter)

If you ever intend to run a second battery I'd definitely go for the 100 amp.
