    Cdl Engagement /disengagement

Just wondering if i climb under my d2 and engage my diff lock once i get on a track is it bad to leave it on for the rest of the track. eg, LCMP most of the day in the tough stuff then on the easy drive back to the camp disengage it ,or do you have to disengage it every time you out of the tough bit

I leave the CDL engaged as soon as i leave the Black stuff. Gravel roads and all dirt tracks it should be engaged. The Center Diff is very small, when you lock it it cannot break, while it is unlocked, over abuse will break it. Well i should refrase that. ABUSE will cause damage. So lock it as soon as you get on dirt.

I pretty much wack mine in as soon as I hit dirt and only turn it off when Im back on the bitumen. You might have to be careful if you hit a really hard packed dirt road though...but otherwise fine to leave it in

You will get pretty sick of climbing under the car though...better get cdl activation mechanism.

if you have a closer look its spelt CHECK ,,,,,it is not recommended to drive fast once you have engaged your CDL, lower speeds is better, and your cornering is reduced due to smaller radius, unless you have a unlimited credit card dive fast and do high speed cornering to your nearest dealer/specialist to replace every thing you have warped and broken

    I'll disagree here.

The only way you'll break (not warp) something is by driving fast with the CDL on sealed roads. It is excessive and prolonged high speed centre differential action that stuffs the centre diff. CDL locked = no differential action regardless of speed.

Remember that the CDL will operate both under power and under brakes. If you have the CDL unlocked and you manage to lock the both wheels on one axle under brakes, it a) punishes the CDL because CDL has to allocate all of the wound up transmission speed, and b) makes the car handle alarmingly badly.

I find the Disco handles dirt INFINITELY better at speeds above 60kph with the CDL locked, and braking and more predictable too. At 90kph I find the handling downright scary without it.

I can drive MUCH faster on dirt with it locked, just have to scando it and use the bodyroll, then let the V8 do it's thang
