I think that this was more of a bug than a design intent when they first stopped fitting the actuators to the CDL...(then stopped fitting the CDL at all)

When they worked out that we like our CDL's spank you hairy crutch they also changed the software. Perchance you have on that at some point has had a software upgrade done on it?.

But Im just taking a WAG...


BTW for those non PC friendly out there...

The software is the stuff you buy to put in the hardware..

The hardwares the bit you kick when the software dont work.

Is your dash light for the CDL coming on? some where on the upper left hand section on the cluster If not the sensor may not be hooked up. there is a wire that can be cut that lets you lock and unlock the CDL and still have the light without effecting the TC, I personally couldnt handle that with all the beach driving i do, I am considering puting a switch on that wire instead of cuting it so when im in the bush i dotn have to unlock the CDL every time i stop the engine but still can get rid of traction on the beach.

btw the information about the wire to cut is either on the expedition exchange or discoweb.org sites.

I thought for the rolling road test there was either a software disconnect or a push button under the bonnet you had to hit similar to the prang stop switch...

No, the computer senses that the CDL is locked via the wire on the transfer that activates the CDL light on the dash. If the Disco2 is started with the transfer case locked (according to the wire) then it will start with the ETC disabled. Most switches to disable ETC are just a disruption to this wire somewhere between the TC switch and the computer and require a restart to turn the ETC on or off.

fair enough... This is why I dont own a disco, The number of times Ive parked with it with the CDL in in low range, shut it down then restarted.... that and you cant hose em out withot SWMBO whinging...

You can switch the wire to the computer so that you you can start with CDL locked. Very very easy to do.

SWMBO probably wouldn't like the comfort, the climate control, security system, door seals, cruise control, noise levels for audible sound systems, airbags, auto transmissions either, but you're right, you cant hose them out, you do have to vacuum the mud out of the carpet.
