I don't get that roof sound off road but do get it when the children try and drive the door shut clean to the other side of the car.

Hi guys
Took the newly acquired Disco 1 300TDi for a bit of a shakedown run over the weekend. The shocks are due for replacement soon (OME kit planned) so I was expecting a bit of a rough ride, but I never expected the cavenous booming from the roof panel.
It seemed like we were driving in a galvanised water tank that someone was beating.
When i got home i stripped out the rear panels and carefully lowered the headlining and pumped in copious amounts of automotive silicone sealer into the gaps between the roof panel and the supprot ribs. When I tapped on the roof this morning there was a noticable difference in pitch from that before the silicone implant (sorry couldn't resist that)
The real test will be another drive off road I guess.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I am making a mental note that if I ever remove any piece of the interior trim for whatever reason, I will be pumping some more silastic into these spaces to stop any further panels from vibrating.
Cheers for now
Jason

You thinka Disco is BAD???
Try a pre 88 Range Rover where the frame is bolted together rather than welded. On my 77 without a windscreen the whole top moved side to side about 5CM.

Never had any noises from my roof... maybe you've got something in yours? (like a missing spanner).![]()
Hi Jason,
Had this exact same thing as well, VERY noticable when closing doors, removed roof lining & filled all gaps with sikaflex windscreen bonding goo.
It was the best thing ever, made the vehicle sound, drive & feel nicer..![]()
I have had 2 disco 1s and never had the problem. In fact I used to admire how quite the disco was on the road until the drivetrain started to wear.
