    Who's running 16x8 rims on a Defender?

...and what backspacing & tyres have you got.

I'm just thinking ahead here for my next set and I'm thinking MTZ 315/75, but I'd like to keep some steering and minimise guard cutting.

    Yep, two sets actually

1st is Baja Claws 315/75/16 on disco rims taken out to 8" plus one inch less backspacing.

2nd are 315/75/16 ProComp ATs on Procomp 16x8s. I think the backspacing difference is 30mm on these.

So, same family of tyres you're looking at. Fit isn't an issue. Steering lock is better.

The flares are on the marginal side of illegal. You'll need to widen them a fraction.

I'm not at all happy with the design of the Procomp wheel. The loads are fed into the hub through a ring on the wheel - the wheel studs have a gap betwwen hub & nut.

The disco wheels are like a clutch, as they should be, Nice big face meets a nice big hub. The wheel nuts just hold everything together.

I suspect the surface area of the raised ring on the inside of the ProComp wheel isn't enough, therefore the studs contribute to transmitting drive, braking & side loads.

All this is at a 2" or so lift. A different ride height might mean you'll rub on the rear turrets, flares, who knows.

On my Defender 16x8 rims with -25mm offset, but 265/75R16 BFG M/T. Steering lock much better. Plastic flares bend using hot gun, no cuts.

Shhh Rick...the missus might hear you.

[whisper mode] It'll be wheels and tyres first, CWPs a little later once the slush fund builds back up. [/whisper mode]
