Hi sean
I have a 93 defender which runs out of rego in 2 1/2 months , I give it about 1 year and it will need an engine rebuild the gearbox also needs some work, syncro in 1st and 2nd is going so if you rebuild both engine and gearbox your probably looking around $7000.00 give or take a bit .
If the one you are looking at does not have any problems yet it will its nearly 15 years old even landy's wear out I wouldn't sell mine for that price I will probably wreck it when it runs out of rego .
regards
james
hey dude, maybe too late but i Have just bought a defender and have been looking at prices for approx 4 months..
I don't know the klm's or condition of the car..
off the top of my head i would say that this is a $3000 too much.
I just looked now at carsales and saw a 1996 model for 12,500.ONO..so maybe this would go for $11000-12000.
heres the link

at the end of the day if you love the 93 one and its klm's and condition refelects the price. go for it

If you are buying a vehicle that old then you need to consider what you intend to do with it. If you are going to use it for touring chances are you will need to do substantial work on it to bring it up to a more reliable standard. Best to find something a little cheaper, especially if you are going to do major 'surgery'.
Good luck
I think its new.. and the wrong one at that. It shouldn't come back that far, the collar of the fitting should be closer to the towbar itself.
Why would anyone change a towbar?
Other thought is theres a dealer sticker on the back window, or appeears to be one anyway. Anyone recognise it? They might tell you it's service history, or some of it.

I flew out of Adelaide 8 months ago to brisbane to look @ a 93 drum rear heaps of Ks Defender. Got my self a one way ticket (early flights are so cheap) I got the price down from $13500 to $10500 over the phone a bit more haggeling when I got to Brisbane drove it home to Moonta on Yorke Peninsula for $10000.
A bit pricy
look at the interior shot is that rust on the lower hinge drivers door? The winch looks dead rusty.
Thanks for all the replies. Hopefully I'll be able to get a look at it this weekend. Assuming it looks in reasonable condition, if he's OK with a pre-purchase inspection and willing to knock a few grand of the price it still might be a goer.
Cheers
Sean
I personally would not there is to many factors against it age all the rust ????
i would give the LR specialists [not stealers] a call and ask if they know of any body selling defenders/county ,,,
