    Loctite, Loctite, Loctite???

My Def Manual tells me to use Loctite 270 when re-fitting the hub components, but everyone is "out of stock" or "we don't keep it."

So I ring Loctite Australia: "we don't bring in 270 - that's only for America - try 271, it is just the same, I think!"

Off to Repco: "we don't stock 271 and anyway it costs $57+, why don't you use 262 - it's about $11 - just as good! Oh but we're out of stock."

So my questions of Aulro members are
    1. what Loctite products do you use for hubs and similar purposes,
    2. what other Loctite products should I keep in the shed?
    Thanks...

I use Loctite antisieze and loctite 248 thread locker in stick form and if I need anything else I'll buy it.

I highly recommend the stick form where applicable, its more expensive but it lasts a lot longer and also is much easier to apply to bolts.

    222 is for screws

243 for bolts that may need to come out again (e.g. drive flange bolts)

262 for studs or if you positively, absolutely don't want it to come apart.

Always make sure the threads are clean and dry. Carby cleaner or brake cleaner is good for this. Use the Loctite primer in low ambient.

272 is on my chart but I've ever seen it. Its main use is for temps above 150*C
Get a chart from a Loctite retailer, or the chart is available in a PDF on the Loctite Oz site.

Their flange sealant/gasket eliminator is bloody good stuff too.

I take it, this for a Triumph Motorcycle? I love my Triumph.

I used Loctite 262, spring steel washers, AND, aircraft grade Nyloc nuts (the purple coloured ones), on High tensile bolts and studs. The bastard still shook itself apart.

Like Rick said. 243 is the best all rounder.
    Don't bother with 272.
Unless of course you have "modded" your Landy to Gas Turbine.
    In which case SHOW ME.

essentially the 27x series of loctites are the higher temp versions of the 26x versions As we are aircraft world im not supposed to use the 26's but the 27's

for a rover the 26 should be what your after but I prefer to use 27 on engine components.

The 270-7 series is a bloody nusance, don't put it on anything that you want to pull apart again. Made that mistake once.
The 270 is definatly available over here, try blackwoods, I got some through them not that long ago.

As the guy's posted, the 243 is the go, holds good and isn't that much of a nusance to remove bolts.

And remember you only need a drop on the thread, and even then you can use another bolts thread to smear it about with. That way you can do two bolts at once. By using more that this your only wasting your money and lining the pocket of Mr Locktite.

Shorty, if you don't want a bolt to come undone try the 290.

    Cheers

Normally, I would agree with you.

However, this Triumph of mine, can shake the molecules of a weld apart, once the red painted needle, is getting up to the 120 mark, on the old MPH Smiths speedo.
At least it would if it hadn't fallen off.

if you cant undo something thats loctited....

    1. apply mr oxy torch gently to warm the component up and then go it while its warmed up

    2. warm it up to about 100degs then apply the loctite penatrative agent
