    Idler Bearing/pulley

On Saturday i had the idler pulley? ( i think thats what it is called) on the air con belt rip out. it seems to have taken some of the casing with it.

So just a question. I don't have the car with me yet it was towed. Where this bolts on to the motor is that just a casing plate or does it bolt onto the block?

And if it is just a casing how expensive are these? and if it is the block how screwed am i?

The idler / adjuster pulley arm is bolted to the timing cover with 3 bolts.

And, if you've damaged the part of the aluminium spigot that the idler bearing fits onto, don't panic - that front section of the TDi is the timing belt cover. Either get a aluminium welder to repair it, find a 2nd hand one or do mail order from the UK. They only weigh 2kg ish - currency conversion and postage still beat Dealer prices. Meanwhile, do without AC for a while - you can drive around whilst you wait for the replacement.

yeah was quoted between 1300 and 1500 to replace the cover.

WOW i might have to start looking at second hand or overseas places to get a replacement.

I dont really need aircon as it is a soft top but would like to get it fixed sometime.

Anyone got a lead on a second hand one or even an part number so i can look around o/s.

    Cheers

Hang on, has the cover been damaged or just the idler mounting/tensioning plate. As Bigjon says the plate is bolted to the cover with three bolts. I'd be surpised if they all failed and the cover was damaged. It may only be the plate that's damaged.

No wonder I didn't see your vehicle come through ballandean, or did you get past there, and have it break??

It isn't the adjustable one, it is the one at the bottom.(dont know if what the correct term for that is) so as far as i know it is just one bolt into the casing not a plate? is this right?

John, If you are heading that way this week that would be great. Send me a pm if you do and ill give you some details and have a chat.

    Cheers
