D2 Won't start on first turn of key

My DII TD5 has developed a strange starting issue, the first time you go to start the car it won't, so turn it back to accessories then to start again and she fires up

When you initially try to start it it feels as though it has a flat battery, lights go dim and nothing but try again and it turns the engine no trouble at all.

    Any theroies

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

Hi Baz, this is just a suggestion but with the onset of the cooler weather, your battery might be trying to tell you it’s on it’s last legs.

Might be time for a load test on the battery.

    Cheers

As silly as this sounds while your checking the battery check to see if your battery terminals are clean. Could be part of the problem too.

    Gday Baz,
i had exactly the same symptoms before my starter motor failed.

Hope its just the battery though lot easier to replace.

    Drivesafe.

What is the normal reason for this "2nd try works" thing? It has happened to me over the years prior to the battery going mammaries up.

It's as though the first heavy discharge 'burns' off the plates allowing the 2nd start to have some juice, but is this correct?

Probably some simple reason in reality.

    Oh gawd i hope not

I'll get the girl to put the volt meter on the battery, what's exceptable volts wise when it's been sitting for a while and then after starting.

Drive to the battery joint and have them do a load test this will give you the best indication as it loads the battery up and lets you know how much power it can deliver i have a load tester here and its a handy tool for diagnoseing batterys that are sus

    OK i'll do that.

The battery is only 12mths old, so it should be fine, but you never know.
