center diff lock on 2000 model disco 2 question..

I have retro-fitted a diff lock actuator on a disco 2, 2000 model. As expected, when I start the car and actuate the diff lock the red cdl indicator is activated, and if I stop the car and then restart without de-activating the diff lock, the abs and traction control lights are on (i think indicating they are deactivated). Is there a mod i can do to make the vehicle work like a later series II, where the abs and traction control are not affected when restarting the car? Its very annoying off road!
    Cheers,
    Dave

you could put a switch in series with the CDL switch on the transfer case and turn it off before starting or use a relay in place of the switch and use a oil pressure switch to earth the coil that way it would be automatic.
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

Im interested in what sort of mechanism you used to hook the whole thing up. I would like to do it also but want to keep the interior as original as possible.

    Any ideas?

You need to cut the wire going to the SLABS unit (or switch it)...

    from ashcroft transmissions:

    1) Disconnect the battery. Unscrew the four hex screws in the glove box hinges. Reach round the side of the glove box with each hand and pull the closing mechanism upwards. Slide the glove box out
    2) Pull out the 3 push-studs on the black cardboard panel underneath the glovebox, and undo the screw stud at the back. Remove the panel.
    3) Near the outer side of the gap behind the glove box, you will see 2 or 3 ECUs, depending on whether you have ACE, I think. The SLABS ECU is the centre of the three, or the outside of the two. It has 5 black connector blocks underneath. Remove the centre block of the five from underneath the ECU.
    4) Look for the black & blue wire running to pin 9 of the connector block, which is the central pin on the lower row, i.e. the row furthest from the retaining clips. At this point, make sure you have the right connector, and the right pin!
    5) Cut this black & blue wire & tape off the ends. (Give enough space to solder it back together if you find out you have cut the wrong one...) Reconnect the connector. Replace the panel and the glovebox. Reconnect the battery.

    Hi Davros
If you dont turn the key full off it will restart without a disablement of the TC/ABS.
Found this out when my 12yo boy stalled a couple of times on the beach last easter.Try it and see.
I know what you mean,I try to unlock my CDL before stopping as most of the time I prefer to keep ABS/Traction Control off-road.

You can buy the shifter from the last of the D2s,03/04 the ones with the D3 style headlights.
Its a straight swap in your D2 as you have the CDL,unlike our friend Kenneth the Ceiling Fixer.

    Snip!

Thanks JWB! Snipped the wire, problem solved..
Only thing was the controler was the one closest the passenger door, and the five blocks were multi coloured, not black...
    Cheers,
    Dave.
