Hi all, can anyone tell me there fuel consumption with a Disco 1 3.9 v8?
I was getting around 380 to 400ks per tank, but now it has dropped to 320ks and my driving has been the same.

Good question but there are a hell of a lot of variables.
I live in darwin so it is pretty flat, but we also have a higher open speed limit than other states, most of our roads are almost boringly straight not windy at all. short runs before the car has a chance to bet to running temp makes for horenous fuel consumption. Are you doing a lot of stop start?
My disco 1 had reasonably good fuel consumption - about 15 to 17lt per 110k then for no aparent reason dropped to low 20's at best, I had changed nothing. (normal servicing excluded)
I ended up spending a heap of money trying to track down what the hell had made it change, unfortunately I never really satisfactorially found the cause, it now has heaps more power and back into the high teens for fuel consumption, which is probably the cause of my very lead foot, because I get no difference in consumption driving hard or carefully.
all the best with it - and if you find a cause for the change let us know
cheers Blythe
Failed air flow meters will also give woeful fuel economy with this engine.
Hi March,
I've stopped checking economy and just feed the beast when it's empty!
In town I've managed to chew 70 litres of LPG in 200 kms whereas on a good country run the same fuel gets around 330 kms..
Hi march,
I have a 3.9 RR auto (157000Klms on the clock) and returns constantly :
= 18 to 20Ltrs per 100klm around town with lots of stop and start driving.
= 17-18Ltrs at highway speeds of 110 kpr
= 16-17Ltrs highway speeds at constant 90kpr
alltrans
Disco 1 V8 Auto(268,000km), 19L/100km no matter what. It did jump to nearly 30L/100km, MAF sensor replaced and ignition fixed, back to 19 again. I have a very heavy foot, I could probably get better. To fix the short range, I got a bigger tank![]()
Thanks all for quick responce, I must say that i do have a rough idle and sometimes it will stall and when it does, I'll open the bonnet and jiggle the sensor cable on the inlet hose and then it seems to stop stalling. Not sure if that could be the prob or not. I have changed the oil, spark plugs and air filter but not the fuel filter as yet. Thanks March
I changed mine a couple of days ago. However, I was getting about 500k's from a tank and more if I'm really nice with the throttle and brakes.
Now, since I replaced the fuel filter, I'm getting heaps of black muck coming out of the exhaust when I first start up in the morning, it sprays the driveway! Any one help diagnose what causing this?

I've got a '97 Disco V8 3.9 and I get/got around 19l/100km.
However, after yesterdays incident and apparent resetting of the engine management I will have to see if this changes. However, if it does there won't be a direct comparison since I am getting a 2" lift, new bullbar and winch fitted today.
