as the title suggests, thinking about a long range tank. can anyone let me know what my options are and how many dollars im looking at? thanks in advance.

I have 2 tanks that run down the sill panel on my 95 disco they hold about 50 liter each which feed the main tank by a switch you fill the tanks from the back wheel arch they are made by LRA which I think stands for Long Range Australia from what a gas specialist told me I dont no how much they cost because mine were in there when I bought it.
Major part of the heart and soul of AULRO.comI like the idea of sill tanks (I had one on my previous RR) but even more so with diesels so that a hit in the side won't rupture a petrol tank. With sill placement the fuel is centrally placed and not at the rear of the car which isn't a good idea for handling.

But while we are on that subject. Will a range rover classic long range tank fit in a Disco. Just my thinking is that they should do as they are the same chassis. But just wanted to know if anyone else had tried it

I thought they'd be the same too but I've fitted a late D1 tank in my 87 RR & had to make new mounts to suit.Originally Posted by Reads90
I think you'll find the early D1 had the same mounts as the classic RR but the plastic tanks as fitted to the MA onwards Disco are different.
You might even find the later Classics had the plastic tanks too & they could well be the same as the later D1s.

I bought a Disco long range tank to fit in my previous '86 RR. The cross member in front of the tank was different and the tank wouldn't fit.

For un-obstructive off roading use the sill tanks have to be the best. The long ranger ones all seem to have a big hang-up at the rear.
Filling the sill tanks is a bit of a pain though. I made an extended funnel to get to the filler neck under the rear arch.
Another pain is covering the filler cap to protect against mud, dirt etc. I am looking for a 73mm diameter plastic/rubber cap to protect mine.
If you are a dab hand at fabrication then why not install a second filler cap in the body work? I was thinking of doing this and would still like to do it if/when I next have to drop the tanks for sevice etc. This would definatly be the perfect solution.
Price wise.... I have 2mm stainless, 50lt each, all fittings, pumps, wires, connections was 1000 UK pounds. Air freight from UK to Dubai was another 230 quid.
I know you'll be buying from Oz...but as a comparison you might want to jot those number down.
Fitting is straight forward if you have access to a four post lift. The wiring and plumbing took longer than the actual mounting of the two tanks!
Getting the breathers right is important though. I found at first that I had fuel sitting in the breather lines..... so lifted them as high as possible under the car.
Job jobbed.
