    Brake warning light blinking

    hi guys,

i have the following problem: the brake warning lights on the dashboard keep flickering. there is not really a pattern to it, sometimes it happens more often, sometimes only occasionally.
first thing was to check the brake fluid levels, that is not the problem. the handbrake is not engaged (of course), so i wonder if anyone had a similar problem and would know an answer. brake level sensor? brake pads worn? hand brake switch?

    thanks in advance.

I do not know about a D2 in particular, but I would be inspecting the wires which go to the pad with the sensor in, or the pad itself.
There could be some dirt/moisture in the connector, the pad could be cracked around the sensor, or the pad could be worn out but the sensor displaced.

the pads do not have sensor's in them, which lights are flickering? all the lights ie ABS,HDC,TC and the brake light or the handbrake light ?? if there is a fault in the abs circuit then even if the fault last a fraction of a second the ECU will log it and the lights will stay on it maybe a power supply problem.let us know what lights are coming on and what car you have D I or D II

There are no sensors in the Pads on a D11, the light will iluminate in the following conditions

1.Low brake fluid - here if the fluid level is normal check the operation of the switch, remove the cap c/with switch and put a meter on the terminals and manualy move the float switch and see what happens.

    2. Hand brake on - if the handbrake is off - check the operation of the switch - disconnect the wires from the switch and again test with a meter whilst operating the handbrake

    3. Brake control system failure affecting EBD (Quoted from RAVE) - here you would need to have the fault codes checked.

    thanks for your help, guys.

it actually is the handbrake light flickering.
as i said i checked the fluid levels, and the handbrake is obviously not engaged. my other thought was to check the contacts on the fluid sensor, could be they are corroded.
thanks for the tip on error codes. i will have them checked.

As Tinker suggested, it could well be in the handbrake lever switch but you should also check your cable & brake assy.
If the cable or brake is stiicking, it might not allow the handbrake lever to sit all the way down.

if it is the handbrake light flickering then check the adjustment of the cable and the switch which to get to in a DII you will have to remove the panel that holds the window switches, that light is only controlled by that handbrake switch so save your money and do not worry about getting any codes read.
