    All about wheel size???

    Lads,

Am about to bite the bullet - l am sick of sliding around on A/T's. The BFG Mud are looking like goers for me.

Question - are 33/10.5 R15 Muds ok to run with the Defender. I get the height back from not having the 16''...would go with 16's but only have the factory wheels or a set of Rangie wheels (the old ones), and don't think l can get a wide enough wheel on these rims? Yeah?

I am currently running 31/10.5 R15 A/T's and they seem to be fine in terms of gearing etc, just not tall enough!

    Thoughts?

isnt standard diameter for fenders 32inches? I would have thought 33 would be fine but the gearing will be slightly knocked out so you loose highway puff to pull up steep hills. Is it a TD5 or a Tdi fender, the TD5 will notice it less than the Tdi, when i put inch over size tyres on the disco the Tdi doesnt like it. Matt

but a few guys run 33's on tdi's i hear, the clearance on unlifted suspension is the ? at hand...

but the bigger ? is whether the brakes will cope okay as it is a better than 3% increase ....

Up can go up to 33" on stock suspension, basically have three options:

    235/85
    265/75
    255/85

255/85 is the highest you can go but works well on the fender.

I'm running disco rims on my defender so I can go tubeless, got sick of flat tyres! I have BFG Muddies size 265/75R16 which are 33's I believe.
I had to adjust the steering stops and lost a little bit of turning circle but no other problems. I have standard suspension. As for gearing and up hill pull, well..........it is a Land Rover. There might be a little difference but not a lot. You won't curse the tyres for the loss of power.
