    Winch at ALDI - $599

ALDI ( QLD)are selling a winch - "Torque" brand I have never heard of so probably a re-badged version of something else.

Rated at 4,300kg (9,500lb) single line pull, has 28m of 8.3mm cable, 5.5Hp series wound motor, 265:1 gear reduction ratio and a remote hand controller. It also comes with a 3 year warranty.

Anyone seen the Ad? Any thoughts - for that price I could by 3 of them for the price of a Warn

I would not touch one. They are not cheap for no reason. They draw much higher currents than the good winches and burn out motors a lot easier.

It was put to me one time :
"Sometimes in an emergency situation you might have your entire $40k vehicle being held by the winch, do you really want to trust one of these for the sake of saving $500"

I have never had a winch and never needed one and i do get around a bit. Then I dont go looking for trouble either, but I do have a ARB winch bar on the disco which leaves a few holes that whistle a bit in the wind. So I was thinking of filling those holes with a cheap winch that may get used one day.

Lately I have bought a few things on e-bay made in China including a set of HID lights for my KTM. They were very cheap and i was surprised to find that they were also very good quality.

I would like to hear a report from someone who has bought one of these cheap winches. I see Repco are now selling the same ones that are on ebay and are charging around $600 more.

Yeah, i'm still on the fence with this one.......I have an ARB winch bar with no winch which I have had for about 3 years....never really needed a winch to date but have thought about fitting a cheap one just in case. Watching with interest for any reports on how the cheaper one fair.

    Aye, Mick

Might be an ALDI item but it bears more than a passing resemblance (looks, specifications, etc.) to the product that Ironman are selling for $799 in the current 4WDMonthly magazine.

This is just an observation, as I know nothing about the Ironman winch but maybe a member has experience with them and can comment.

Another post refers to some experience with a 9000lb Ironman winch.

Dumb question perhaps but I assume this or any other winch will fit straight into an ARB winch bar without having to buy any other parts or componants or without having to modify anything? For example any new winch will come with all the necessary parts am I right?

As said above they look very much like the Iron Man winches /i have seen a few people at LCMP Levuka and Great sandy NP with the Iron Man and chatted with them and there has not been 1 negative remark [only spoken with 4owners] they all came back with the same reason why i got one "I don't need it very often so for 600 bucks i think its great /i am not a extreme 4x4 that wont have my rig hanging on a cliff if i need it it will be to get me out some mud / sand or up a slipery hil]
It is still sitting in my garage waiting for my neck injury to improve so i can install it so i don't have experiece with it yet/and Mickg it comes with everything
