I want to start doing my own oil changes on my 02 Disco TD5. Can you get the correct filters including the roto filter from suppercheap or Repco or are they only available through LR.
Cheers.

Just watch out for non genuine rotor filters. A mechanic fitted one to our 2001 Td5 disco and on the first 2 hour trip it made a grinding noise like a coffee grinder. I tried contacting the mechanics 24 hour national telephone line on the Sunday but to no avail. When I took it back I was not impressed that they had not used genuine ones as the price difference was minor.
I still wonder where all the brass went that was gone from the filter. We were leaving shortly after for a trip to Broome so I made sure that I had a letter from the mechanic stating what happened. They had a nationwide warranty on their work (reeeeeppppppccccoooooo!).
You sometimes don't save money in the long run. Others will differ as this is a favourite on this forum.
Yeah, I buy my filters from the dealers parts outlet. At least this way they will be right.
Cheers

they can be got from super crap at about 30% over the going rate, which is still cheaper than stealers...
I get mine from four wheel drives down in melbourne.

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
The "roto" filters are made by MANN+HUMMEL. Contact their office in sydney and they will tell you the best place to get them from. The M+H version will be identical to the genuine one, just at a fraction of the cost...
AFAIK the others are made by coopers - contact them for the nearest supplier to you.
The problem I have is, thanks to LR. My closest dealer is 2hrs away. If I have to drive to a LR dealer to get the parts I mide aswell get them to service it.
I haven't tried. But presume they would.
Sounds like everyone uses the genuine articles and stay away from the auto store ones.
