Diff locks

I tried to put my input in terms of how I was thinking at the time I bought a diff lock but I guess the more you learn the more you take for granted in the knowledge of others.
If you get maxi drive, unless you are competant to remove the axle assy and cut a hole in the axle tube and weld a steel block onto the tube without warping the tube, or if you don't understand this, you need proffessional installation.
Once installed rear maxi is pretty much bulletproof. There is no compressor or electrical to fail and the breakable parts in the original assy are replaced so the chances of any problems are very low, the kit contains EVERYTHING you need. That's it for the rear end!
The front is a different story because the front end has week links and more parts need replacing. My advice to you is to ring maxi drive 07 5530 3934 they will tell you honestly what you need, remember, they are Land Rover specialists, they don't do any other vehicle!
If you buy any other diff lock you will not get all the other "beef up" bits and might also have to buy a compressor, so you would have to buy them seperately. Bear in mind that a compressor is a must have anyway so you can deflate your tyres for added traction and then pump them up for the drive home.

I'm hesitant to follow the path Dirty Dawg has taken regarding ARB lockers and then Maxi Axles etc - Murphy's law and I have a very close relationship at times and I reckon I would miss upgrading one vital piece of equipment. Although when I first read what he had done I thought that was the answer for this old fella. Then I took into account Mr Murphy. And a compressor is already fitted to the vehicle.

Having one manufacturer supply the complete fit-out is the way for me because there is no way I will be doing the job. Lazy? No. Realistic? Very much so.

It is going to be an expensive exercise I suppose. More ammo for the Cranky One.

Can I just confirm, this was both axles, all fitted, with the only extras being uprated and worn component replacement? Was this ARB in Osborne Park that did yours, or do you have a closer store? That seems almost too cheap when you consider it gets you a fitted, on board compressor as well!

Spoke to the chaps at maxidrive today, and was very impressed - not often these days you get to speak to someone who knows his subject backwards, and is happy to spend time talking with no sale imminent!

Having read everything here, and spoken to these guys, it's looking like a maxidrive locker at the rear, with new axles (Which it seems likely will also sort out most of the driveline slack I've got, which would be a bonus) and then see if I need the front and make a decision on that later.

I've got arb air lockers and maxi drive axles with ashcrost CV's. no problems. a front locker will tend to snap standad cvs, ashcroft cv's are guaranteed for 5 years even with a locker :D
