    External Air Filter

Did any of the series landys come out with an external type air filter, similar to a donaldson type filter? see pic.

If not dose anyone know what this may be off?
    Any Ideas, thanks!

No. A snorkle was optional for all Series Landrovers with petrol engines (not approved for the diesel according to my catalogue), but not a cleaner like that, although quite a few have been fitted as aftermarket devices.

It could be an aftermarket aircleaner for any light truck or offroad vehicle, or could be off a tractor, although most tractors have a much higher intake, usually the highest point on it.

What does a Series LR snorkle look like, John? And where do they come out?

Paul, I have seen similar filters fitted, quite like you see fairly frequently on 40 series Toymotors. And it looks not unlike the factory one under the bonnet of my V8 Series III, although that doesn't have the rain cap on the air intake.

Many Government tenders specified a Donaldson (type) air filter be fitted, often with a precleaner as well. Some time in the 70's or early 80's, the Qld. Standard Code of Tendering was altered to forbid the use of Brand names in tender specifications, so Donaldson filters, Accurate Welding Works protective canopies, Kato bullbars, etc. could no longer be referred to by name. Departmental or Council officers frequently told tenderers what they expected to see on the supplied machine so you could quote accordingly.
