Fuel supply probo....

Back again. Now I'm perplexed.

I disconnected the new filter. I also disconnected the fuel line from the rail in the engine bay and pumped air thru the line. No blockage there, a bit of fuel then, air flowing clearly thru the pipe.

I reconnected the fuel filter and put a small bucket in the engine bay. Turned on the ignition and there was fuel flowing from the line into the bucket. A reasonable flow but not a fire hose. So I reconnected the line to the rail, let it all prime up ( I can clearly hear the fuel pump engaging) and went for a fire up. A few pots tried to show some life, but not enough to get the motor to run.........

I'm lost... The pump seems okay, there's new a filter, the line is clear......

but when cranking, the motor sounds like its trying to get fuel...

any ideas?

Well Q at least you know that area's ok.

I do wonder what the condition/cleanliness of the injectors is though, with all that shyte you've had.
Did you notice the colour/condition of the components after the filter?

I still have a feeling in me water that there is a buildup of crap & as the injector bore is so narrow, one wonders.:confused:

It may be time to whip all the injectors out & take them to Service Centre. Could you phone an injector specialist for advice & go from there?

I tend to agree with 4 Bee - given the amount of **** you had in the filter..........could some of this crud blocked the injectors ?

Can you check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail? With the amount of rubbish evident in the filter, it is fair to assume the the pump is knackered. Bear in mind the the pump gets all of that first with no filter to protect it.

Does this model have a fuel pressure regulator ?

put a pressure gauge on it, if you dont get 30psi minimum at the supply line from the filter to the injector manifold inlet your screwed, the pump is probably cactus from trying to work against a blocked filter for so long.

you also need to check the flow rate, I beleive from memory that you should be looking at about 1l/min from the pump if its top notch.

your last best hope is a blow back of the fuel lines with HP air, remove the filter again and blow back the line from the injector manifold and see what happens, then with that line disconnected recheck the pumps flow/pressure immediately after the filter.

If thats not the case then your probabley looking at crook injectors

This is all assuming that your sparking ok..

years ago I had simialar problem with my series II would crank over and try and fire but not go had spark etc turned out it was the condensor it gave no sign of giving out just next day would not go replaced it and away it went,this was after pulling the carb to bits,checking the fuel pump replacing the points trying a spare coil it was the last thing I tried and away it went

I blew out the line (HP air) from the filter to the rail and it was clean, no gunk, goo, or anything else. The filter obviously did its job.

The fuel pressure regulator, appears to be the last thing on the rail before the return to the tank, I'm going to remove it and inspect, dunno what I'm really looking for tho'.....

The pump, we ran it yesterday, just to the filter and it was pushing fuel without any difficulty.

Yup, BigJon, I've removed the pump and am going to try a bench test, just to see what happens in a bucket of fuel...
