Q, did you happen to notice & note down any stamped info on the body?
Geez, 4bee, why didn't you ask me that when I was upside down trying to remove the fuel filter:D
I didn't like what I saw underneath, tho'...
Ongoing beach running is not a good thing...
I'd like to get the Disco on a hoist for a while and give the underbody a real good go over with a HP hose...
I'm a bit surprised by the amount of rust, only on peripherals, but there's a multitude of underpanels/parts which have to be repaired/replaced, due to the rustyworm....rear guard liners, sway bars, mounts, and a few underbrackets are all on the way out...(and I don't ever drive in the salt water)
beach runners take note...

Sheeeeeeesh! I meant the pump body.:D
Sorry mate,
the pump body had a sticker wrapped around it, (but no rubbery insulation) which fell off when it hit the atmosphere... before it disintegrated, JohnE and I had a good look at it, it was a Coopers type PIG071(?) (one supplier 'sort of' confirmed this number said it was the same as a Ryco 479), very heavy unit relative to the one I've replaced it with, it's upside was it had pos/neg markings unlike the C'dore vers...
however when I got the C'dore unit, complete with the carrier and wiring, from the pump, the two 12v wires were black and purple, so I took a punt.;)

Yeah ok, that was your faulty pump, roight?
What about the "new" one. Did you notice any details on that one for the record?
Sorry to drag out your recent painful experience.:D
I seem to remember ---
sclarke saying something about volvo pumps being
the same and being HALF the LR new price,,
damned if I can remember where the post was now,,,
was in 2004,, I think,,,
someone had recently updated a pic,,,,
and thats what brought the post up to the top,,
so maybe a project?
edit;
naw was in tech, and you beat me there LOL!
but if you want NEW,,,,, ;)
4bee, I don't recall seeing any markings on it, just a pump from a VR Commodore.

Fairys stuffed.:) Wondered if it may have been a Bosch wottsit.
Reading thru all this and with some advice from a local supplier of anything - said the LR pump is common to Falcon. My replacement is a Commodore unit - and a Volvo unit will do the same, apparently -
I only have one small concern - that the Commodore unit I got, is a bit shorter than the unit I removed - and may not take up the fuel tanks potential load capacity...

Was trying to find where you mentioned the difference in height but can't for the mo. Didn't you say it was only a cm or two difference?
As it appears the failures may be caused by running the tank very low, I can't see that being a problem for you from now on, especially with the remote beach driving you said you do.
Mine never gets lower than 1/4 or if it ever does, it's only for a short time.
Wassat? How much for a short time?:D
