mmm could be blocked fuel filter how long has it been since it was replaced![]()
Evening all, anyone help with this?
The Disco (93 V8) ran out of fuel (in the driveway).
I cranked it over this morning and discovered this prob....
SO, I put in 20 litres of fuel and let it prime (as in when you turn the key you can hear the fuel pump engaging), the pump sounds okay, as per normal.
But I don't think it's getting fuel to where it matters...
What do I do? Have I got air in the fuel line? How do I prime it to make it all 'wet'?
Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated, as I need it to work, now!
TIA, GQ

You may have picked up some **** from the bottom of the tank, I doubt if it would be an air lock.
Disconnect it at the engine end and pop the pipe in a container - and have someone else switch the ignition on - and see what, if anything comes out of the pump.
If nothing - put some low pressure air back through the tube towards the tank, this may clear a blockage.
I'm back, thanks for the tips.
The problem appears to be a vacuum hose.
Behind the plenum chamber, where the fuel lines are, there is a vacuum diaphragm thingy. It has a small black hose attached to it,
here's the prob
the other end is not attached to anything!
Where does it go to? My edit: found a little pipe nipple behind the plenum chamber, attached the hose and cranked it for a while and.... no go..... bugger...... and today of all days.........Ladas I'll try your suggestion, ta.

Good one quiggers, you must be touched, at the most inopportune time, your runs seem to happening in evening.
I am heading down to ballina this morning so if you want to be ferried just give me a bell.

You can prime it by turning the ignition on and off say 5-10 times.
The vacuum hose being reconnected will certainly help the running of the car but was not a factor.

sooooo,,,,
The preferred method is to just cycle the pump on and off a dozen or so times?
assuming everything else is OK?

No everything's not okay, bugger........
I made an assumption which was wrong. There was plenty of fuel in the tank, in fact it's probably half full, or more....(my estimations are way out, it's not drinking anywhere near what I thought, which is a bonus I spose).
I refitted the vacuum line, tried the abovementioned prime description (thanks Phillp), and still nothing, I've even cleaned all the spark plugs and the dizzy cap just in case.
It's trying to fire, but only one or two cylinders kick, then its crank crank crank....
The battery went on charge overnight and is good, there's no crap in the tank, I had a good look, but I'm a bit flummoxed...
Haven't done what Ladas said as yet, but that's next up.
More to the point, it did a few hundred kays on Sunday to Tuesday evening on new spark plugs, was parked overnight and on Wednesday morning, this problem came out of nowhere...
Hmmmmmmm........
Suggestions will be greatly appreciated and when the cavalry arrives, we'll do Ladas trick, keep you posted.
