    Quick bonnet mounted spare question

    Hi Guys,

I'm wondering how hard it would be to attache an army style series 3 bonnet spare tyre mount onto a standard 95 defender bonnet.

Any ideas, thoughts, tips, tricks or creative abuse (I'm bored at work).

    thanks in advance

    Dave

You would be better off with a station wagon mount as it's stronger than the normal one (also used on the rear door of the station wagon), but the S3 one would do the job.

on a 95 i would be putting at least 2.5mm chequer plate in the bonnet gully then a series wheel mount as the framing on the 95 bonnet isnt as good as as series bonnet.

at least one person on here has a cracked bonnet as it wasnt reinforced one way or another...

put some thought into doing it myself... i have a couple of series wheel plates i am going to utilise one way or another...

First thing I would be doing is taking out gym membership to build up arm, back and leg muscles and make sure you dont have "Piles", otherwise you will need a stick to shove'em back in and make sure you have a great bonnet prop, if you dont want to get decapitated, LOL, Regards Frank.

I did this by using some "top-hat" section folded steel I found at a scrapyard to replace the weak sections that connect the front and back ends of the bonnet frame. I MIG-welded it in and it's been strong enough. The stock-standard bonnets are known for cracking and bending with spare wheels on them.

P.S. What did bored people at work do before the Internet?????
