Should indicate limp home mode.
Give it about 15 minutes and try restarting, it may self clear - should come on flashing and then stop flashing.
Can indicate a gearbox issue but could also be caused by the Hi/Low lever not being fulling engaged.

The flashing M and S lamps usually won't stop the vehicle, but it depends what is causing them to illuminate. Mostly it is a glitch or 'spike' and can be remedied by turning off the vehicle and re starting. Obviously in this case I'm reading 'vehicle stuck' means just that.
The only way now is to be plugged in to a LR Testbook, Rovacom, Autodiagnos or Autologic diagnostic computer.
Good luck, hope it is solved quickly, if you could let us know where the vehicle is, some of the Brisvegan* Aulrolians may be able to suppy a contact.

will try that and see what happens
Operational again after 30 mins. Reset and all sweet. Owner said thanks to those who promptly replied to the message request. Very grateful.
Thankyou ALRO website another happy member.
Thanks to everyone who helped and a special thanks to "Rover" who I met outside the video store and asked him a few questions and he helped me out.
The car went into M & S but wouldn't go anyware in hurry at all, basically very very slow 5kmh around the carpark. Turned off, locked car, unlocked car turned on no luck. Left for 5 mins tried again no luck, no luck 15mins later, lastly tried after 30 mins and the lights went off and the car performs as if they were never on.... really really strange.
Definately getting that one checked out at the next service... a trip from bundy to Brissy to see the boys at MR Automotive is in order one thinks.
Thanks again for all your assistance everyone.

Why exactly I drive a 300TDi Defender..can you imagine a glitch halfway up the Birdsville track, computers in cars are like electrics and water![]()
You don't have to be on the Birdsville track - my route into town, the first twenty kilometres its not unusual for the tracks I left last week to have nothing over them. And there is no mobile or UHF coverage. A problem could easily result in 10km walk, which could be a major problem in summer, and not to be looked forward to any time.

That's definitely Limp Home Mode. You need to wait at least (from memory) 10 minutes for the ECU's to "discharge" (probably not the right term) before trying to restart otherwise they can retain the fault and not try and reset.
Me too, though I also like my Td5 Disco and will probably get a D3 later in the year (now Rovacom's available for it). Electrics are OK if you can diagnose them.
Think of the Td5 Defender as equivalent technology to the new Land Cruiser 70 and it puts things in perspective![]()
