Er, the liners can and do move up.
The fire ring of the gasket is outside the liner so it can move up until it hits the head. On a steel gasket that is about 20thou.
The theory in "Tuning Rover V8s"' is That when the liners are put in a hot block they sometimes do not sit fully on the ledge. This gives them more room to move.

I also cant see how a liner can move UP because of the head sitting on top.
I have heard rumors about liner shift on these engines before and would welcome some comments based on my observations.
    G'day Mark,
I had a 3500 rebored with two new liners fitted some years ago. After
10 000km it started ticking, which developed into a bucketful of rattles fairly quickly. The engine reconditioner and I (like you) couldn't see how the new liners could move. The short answer seems to be that the original liners did not have the top-hat and it is probably they that have moved. I still haven't had the nerve to strip it down and check

The difference in weight would barely be that of a steel bullbar.

Is the adaptor for an LT85 the same as the adaptor to an LT95?
In other words, would it bolt up to an LT95?
