    LR expertise in NT?

    Hi everyone
I'm currently heading North from Pt Augusta towards Darwin pulling a caravan. Hoping that nothing goes amiss of course but was wondering about LR support on the way in the event of a problem. I know about Suttons in Alice Springs but what about when I get further North. Does anyone know of any good LR mechanics once I get north of Alice? Is there anyone that can be recommended in say Katherine or Darwin. Doesn't have to be a dealer, could be a good independent LR enthusiast?

I needed to find someone in Katherine the other day and the best guy I could find was Graeme Neander at Katherine East Autos, Lot 2966 Palmer St, Katherine. 08 89711700
He is no Land Rover guru but he will allow you to work on your own car in his workshop, a good guy.
"good independent LR enthusiast?" are quite rare in this area of Australia to my knowledge.

Darwin Mitsubishi is the Darwin dealer - no idea what they are like.

There's a few of us NT (Hmmm is that Non Toyota) residents on the web, so someone from Darwin should be able to help you with more info.

A couple of the locals may have to help with more info, but when I lived in Darwin a couple of years ago, I used a mechanic just up the road from Kerry's, who at the time was the Land Rover dealer.
Unfortunately, I cant remember his details but he was on a side street between Ramirez Rd (behind Kerry's) and Stuart Hwy, Stuart Park.
At some time in his mechanical career he was supposedly serviceing the Army Landrover's.
Some one may be able to give more information.

Hmmm my fav topic, good landrover mech in darwin??

The two best ones that I can recomend are Phil Kerr - Darwin Clutch and brakes, he is very good and quite a reasonable price. The other is Howards Springs Autos, they are a Repco outlet, also both mechanics own and race mud racers so they are used to working on (highly) modified vehicles.

Both places offer outstanding service, and they will ring and ask if you want something replaced while they are working on it.

Unless the Landrover agents mechanics have gone on a course about landrovers I would avoid them like the plague, historically hopeless.

I dont like bagging out anyone but they are renown for service that is less than optimum on Landrovers.

Also Willy at Mataranka is an excellent mechanic, he is the first (only) mechanics shop as you drive in from the south on the left hand side of town. He moved down there from Katherine so he was closer to the fishing area he liked.

Hope thats helped, and if all else fails I am always happy to help a fellow landy owner

    LR in Darwhine?

I concur with the earlier posts altho I had Darwin Mitsu (the LR dealers) do some work on my Td5/130 and was quite happy but the labour and parts price was exorbitant (greater tha $90 per hour I think). In this case I felt that there were no other options....Guess I too will follow the other NT poster and check t the alternatives.

Question I've been asked a few times: Is there only Darwin Mitsubishi with the diagnostic gear?

My understanding is unless there's someone private with Rovacom or Autologic there's no-one else in Darwin and no-one until Sutton Motors in Alice. Can any of you western Territorians confirm this?
