Not sure if he works that area, but if he doesnt he will recommend someone ..
++ Guy, will be his customer again.
Sorry to flood the threads with my posts. I just wanted to hear of any recommended mobile mechanics who specialise in tdi disco's in and around Sydney.
I live in Melbourne and am looking at a disco north-west of sydney. I would have thought an NRMA test would not reveal much but a mobile landy mechanic would be a better way to spend the dollars.
If a mobile mechanic doesn't exist, does anyone know of a good landy mechanic around Parramatta, Epping, Castle Hill area?? I've heard of Cooper's and Davis' Landy's but don't know how far away they are or if the have a mobile service.
I tried a search and all i found was Ace and One_iota talking about who named a key 'woodruff'...

Peter Harris who works from Padstow. I know he works the Hills area, has come to a friends place only recently.
May be the same Peter, I dont have the mobile number but you can get hold of him through T & R Spares 0297095611.

I am told he is very reasonable.

If he is the same bloke that goes to wattle grove, ( I think he is) he does my mates disco td5, and have been told he is very good and thorough.

there is a dealership at parramatta....trivetts......if you can get it to them.....
they may even have a history of the vehicle.......you never know.....
A big thanks gentlemen. As i just wrote to Scouse in a PM, i'll try and contact some mobile mechanics today.
Because the disco has had a head gasket done (or perhaps a head rebuild), i wanted to find out whether the head was shaved back or whether a completely new head was used.
Am i right in assuming one of the solutions is less risky than the other or if the alloy in the head was ok, grinding properly won't be a prob going forward?
I suspect this post belongs in another thread.....
An update. After having a chat with Peter 'Davis' from RoverMechanical, he said he was too busy for my time frame but DOES do exactly what i needed. FWIW he sounded pretty accommodating. He is the same Peter as recommended by T&R Spares (who were also helpful in my muttered request)
Scouse helped me out with a mob called Sydney Vehicle Pre-Purchase Inspections. They are going to look at the car tomorrow morning.
I'll keep you posted with the outcome of both the car and the calibre of the inspection.
Thanks again for those who through some advice my way
If you have no luck try Mark at www.bemw.com.au - based in Castle Hill
We did a pre purchase last week on my D110 and then a major service this morning.

Thanks LRH. I managed to get Sydney Pre-Purchase Inspections to have a look at the vehicle.
My thoughts on the inspection service were overall pretty good (given i'd never had one done before). The inspection went for 2 hours, had a 20min drive in the car, and sent through a report totalling approx 3 pages of content. (full first page, scattered paragraphs over the following 6).
Seemed thorough enough and was happy to discuss the report after i'd received it via email. Seemed to know enough about tdi disco's and said he'd be more than happy to answer any more questions should i have them.
SO that's the low-down on the inspection. PM me if more info is needed.
FWIW...i didn't buy the car. A few things didn't add up from when i spoke to the actual mechanic who serviced it, and the inspection guy. It needed a few g's work on it before it would make roadworthy and one aux pulley job needed work ASAP before i could have driven it south. It's fuel cap was missing too..
So the gut feeling was walk away on this one...but a few others have come up since.
