Yup, The only 'special tools' you need with those clips is your own fingers!!!

Just out of curiosity, what is the purpose of this fuel cooler. My mate reckons it's a cooler not a heater and it has an inbuilt thermostat.

I can't understand how your fuel can been hotter than the radiator water!!!

If it's a heater, (a) what purpose does it serve in Aussie climes? (b) can it be repplaced with a generic heat exchanger?

Does heating the fuel have any 'performance' benefits for the engine?

Would putting a fuel heat exchanger on a 300Tdi have any benefit?

Yep it cools the fuel from the head that's to be returned to the filter housing to be recycled to the engine and it has a thermostat to prevent the fuel from being cooled too much. There is special plumbing from the radiator to get the coldest coolant.

Is the temp in Australia cold enough for a fuel cooler. I can understnd that in England it gets cold ..... If the vehicle is running at normal temp thats hotter than weather temp? so why this thing that leaks all the time.
In Australia cant you just bypass the cooler bit and Join the fuel lines and the coolant lines and leave out the cooler. I have lived in England, I came back to Aussie for the warm climate. Australia does not get cold enough for all this Cold weather stuff they put on Rovers to come to Australa HELP

COOLER... Not HEATER....:eek:

The fuel is compressed in the head, the fuel returning to the tank is Hot...
The cooler is to COOL this fuel down as it returns to the tank.

And considering the total number of leaks reported on this site equals <3 I'd say its nothing to worry about...

Name other "Cold weather stuff" fitted to a Landrover "unnecessarily" if you will..... I'm curious.....;)

Yes, it's to keep the fuel temperature to 70C or below in HOT weather! Very necessary in Australia.

Just to add to this, I had the misfortune to be under a 2005 Lowlux D4-D and it has a flat ally cooler for the fuel under the passenger floor, in a very vulnerable possy!!! Obviusly not much of an offroader are they....

sorry to dig up an old thread, my 02 td5 has a bit of a coolant leak from the end cap that faces the front of the car. i noticed that there was fluid on the engine mount, and after closer inspection, there is signs of fluid on the bottom surface at the end cap of the cooler(def coolant, not fuel). from reading this thread, it seems o-rings are the culprit and can be changed. does anyone have a "how to"

I have just noticed a coolant leak from the fuel cooler in my TD5, but only after cold nights. So a quick search on AULRO and this is the first thread I found.

Now to get some O'Rings:cool:
