    High Idle on Disco 2

The idle on the Disco is now nearly 1000rpm it has also developed a whistle that sounds like the turbo whistle, now from my experience with motorcycles when an engine starts idling high, it's usually sucking in extra air (ie) running lean, 2 stroke engines aspecially do this.

Any thoughts and could the whistle sound be the sucking of air in, it is only apparent when the engine is at full running temp.

I was thinking the broken exhaust studs again but this is different, the idle was never effected by the broken studs.

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

Baz, I have heard of a few occasions where the engine coolant sensor has failed causing this.

Apparently the fault make the 'brain' think the engine is cold and increases the fuel etc., like applying and automatic choke.

    Or fuel temp sensor

    Don't know about the whistle.

OK thanks Ladas, i had another thing mentioned too of an oil leak from the intercooler hose causing this, is this possible?

Sorry Baz, but my knowledge on turbo's/intercoolers is minimal - to say the least

The sensors are easy to test if you have a meter

The fuel temp sensor AND the Engine Coolant Temp Sensors should read

(Yep both have the same resistance at the same temp)

    Temp C------------- ohms

    -10 ----------------9397
    0 ------------------5896
    10 -----------------3792
    20 -----------------2500
    30 -----------------1707
    40 -----------------1175
    50 ------------------834
    60 ------------------595.5
    80 ------------------322.5
    100 -----------------186.6
    125 -----------------100.2

Obviously if either sensor is open circuit it is faulty

Problem solved Ladas, it's the bloody exhaust manifold studs again

Had a good look over the car and found the black soot up the front of the manifold, guess i'm going to be an expert with this now, after we come back from the Flinders it's the upgrade to the 10mm studs.

The power Phil, it's the power

Could well be the cause and yes a egt gauge is on the cards, as well as an intercooler to bring the exhaust temp down, gotta find out the temp to see if the chip is causing the studs too break.

So many things too do, so little money

    90s looking good

    Cheers Baz.

just rember that the more you get the manifold decked the thinner it gets. that should make the expanding and contracting of it quite rapid.
and it will get brittle too.

    cheers phil
