Rick my posting was from my own experiences of owning 3 rangies now, the last (1982) sold with 525k on the clock still with the original untouched ,except for replacing one seal in the power steering box, and pump, diffs steering swivels, wheel bearings all original never replaced ALL with Moreys in them.
All the non dealer repairers over here in Perth recommend and use Moreys in the Rangies and landies of that vintage 70's to 85. I started using the stuff in 1984 when I purchased my first Rangie. I contribute the longtivity of my rangies and very little breakdowns and oil leaks to Moreys and have stated so many times.
I now have it in my 89, in the transfer case viscous ,and a small amount in the auto box, that one has 350k on it.
I will keep using it and reccomending it as for me it works. Others can make up their own minds.

What would life be without a Rangie?
Thanks for all the info guy's i thinks i will go with some good oil for now and some Morelys.
Thanks Tim.
I doubt anyone has, but since it is the recommended oil for Series gearboxes, as well as most other manual gearboxes of that era, there is a very good chance of it happening unless specifically cautioned against. Unlike the other alternative oils EP90 is very likely to cause actual damage to the box.

So Rick130, are you saying you would use a 70/75 gear lube? A very interested on looker!!!
I would highly reccomend Syntrans MTF.
And to add to what some one said about the army only using engine oil, thats only so they don't need to stock more that two oils for their servicing-engine oil -and diff oil.
Dosn't mean it's right, in fact they have more problems and failures with there LT-95's than everyone else put together. They would be LUCKY to have a g/box last more than 40-50k, occasionly you see a car that has had a box last 80-100k, very rarely though.
Don't wast your money on addatives, spend a bit more and get the Castrol Syntrans. You box will drive like new.
Cheers
I used HPR30 in my LT95 once. When it got hot I could not change gear.
So use a 20-50 or I guess equivalent grade gear oil GL3 75-80?.( ie with no EP additive.)
I dunno but I think Nulon would make changing gear harder as the synchros need some friction. Beware also that EP70 or whatever its called has EP oil as its base. I suppose its only a little bit but I wouldn't risk it.

Straight engine oil is best as per mfr spec. Heavy grade for hot climates. Adding 15% Morey's works a treat as well to cut noise, reduce heat and improve synchro.
My LT95 has a hole drilled between the gearbox & transfer plus a 1/2" BSP pipe elbow bend added to the transfer case filler hole to raise the fill level to match what is required in the gearbox. This overfills the transfer side but eliminates forever the problem of oil drifting from gearbox to trfr case and starving the gearbox.
