its cheaper and easier to set up with a vacume acutated solenoid...

I'll be looking at refabing the brackets to take the actuator as fitted to the lt95 gearbox that should be behind the ISUZU 3.9 when I get my hands on MarkNDebs disco.

Its even cheaper and easier to set up a home made CDL acuator!!!!!!!.
15 thou, good value, alot of vehicle for the money.
I paid the same for mine almost 3 years ago,put with 198000 on it,now 221000.
Get the head gasket and dowels done soon, they will eventually fail, costing heaps if you cook it.At the same time get the oil pump drive bolt re-loctited.
Make sure you use synthetic engine oil and the correct coolant. You will get the other TD5 issues but they arent too expensive to fix,ie oil in the harness and fuel pressure reg leaking.
The TD5 relys on its turbo, keep it up around 2000 revs and they go,1500rpm and they start to struggle.Huge amounts of torque for towing, put a weight behind them and they put their head down and pull.
My manual is a touch hard to get 3rd at times but other than that no problems at all.
    I would buy it,love mine!!!!!
I have ACE but no SLS,the ACE is brilliant, you can really push them hard in tight bends with no bodyroll and they have increased suspension travell over standard.
    Goodluck!!!!

What are the problems with the plastic dowels? What is their purpose? If they are there just to locate the head until the bolts are tightened then it shouldn't matter what they are made of. What year models are affected?

well I've lashed out an bought it with a 3-year $750 insurance policy which is hopefully worth something - guess I'll have to hange my username to something other than 'feraldisco' now. First priority will be some of the pre-emptive maintenance on this forum and then fingers crossed.

Will also look at chipping and dieselgas - any recommendations on brands for the first and has anyone put lpg into a td5?

    G'day Rayngie,

Take a look at this thread..
    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php't=39105

Your DII will have traction control.... before you start putting a rear locker in.... Get the CDL sorted.....

No CDL is a a big issue... even if you have front and rear lockers ( which basically do what traction control attenpts to do).. if the front or back lifts enough to loose traction... your stuffed..

So do the CDL first....then decide if you need lockers...

With a CDL you wont need lockers, unless you intend doing real extreme stuff.
The locked CDL makes a huge difference,Im sure Ken will tell you how his un-lockable CDL made quite a difference on last weekends trip.
