Jesus, I had a spare tyre, 80lts of fuel, and a steel trunk with about 30kgs of spares..
over the ruffest stuff you have seen.. and not a drama 75kgs that means LandyAndy would have to cut himself in half to get on my roof rack

Remember that this is only to save LR's ass. The roof can support the vehicle when upside down, which is slightly more than 75kgs. It severly effects cornering and rollover conditions.

Thats my opinion anyhow.

Errrr.... No it can't.

If you roll a Landy, you'll find that the body is made of butter!

The new cars (Freelander, Disco3, L322 RaRo & RRS) can but they have a very different body design.

On the last Cape Trip had a 3 m tiny, petrol and a bit of other light gear on the roof rack. It was way over loaded. The alloy roof rack cracked in two places because of the side ways movement and the roof gutters sagged. We had the roof rack on the bull bar.

Other than that it performed fine from Cooktown to Cape Melville.

I think it also comes down to the construction of the rack, mine probably weighs in the vicinty of 60kg empty, BUT it has 12 legs so the weight is distributed over a larger area.Some of the racks you see only have 6 mounting points, 3 down each side, I wouldnt be loading them up with much.The Hannibal racks mounts encompass the entire gutter, so better still IMO.Incidentally my rack is designed to carry 6 jerries and a spare wheel, I have done a few trips with 2 full jerries and a spare with no probs and the weight is not noticeable.
