    Hid

    Anyone running HID driving lights?

Are they good enough to justify the price?

I have 42 watt HID inserts in a pair of Cibie Super Oscar lights. I can guarantee that you will never go back once you have used them. I would not buy a set of HID lights though. Just convert the lights you have with a kit. If you have Lightforce lights there is a guy on Outerlimits, Bushy555 who sells a kit to convert the Lightforce lights to HID. I needed to remove my Cibie Turini lights and go back to Super Oscars as you cannot get a kit to convert H2 globes unfortunately however the only reason I was using the Turinis was because they fitted into the bull bar better. The Super Oscars stick out a bit.

I am not sure, they are good, but i would be worried about stiking a roo or something and loosing the lot in one go. Thats alot of money to have sitting in such a vulnerable spot.

Not that much money. $200 or so for the HID kit plus whatever driving lights you want to use. If you hit a roo or something and wipe out your driving lights then I would think there were other things that would get damaged as well and I doubt whether the ballasts or starters would be damaged so it would just mean getting new HID globes.

That's cheap compared to HID Lightforces - do you run them? Any good?

There are plenty of HID Kits available from ebay and other places. I fitted a 42 watt kit from ebay into Cibie Super Oscars which I allready had. I also have HID headlamp inserts which replace the H4 globes. I would not go back to normal globes.

    Hi Ian,
Are these the sliding shield (?) type to change from high to low beam ?
Does that system work OK ?

I'm tempted to convert my driving lights to HID but I wouldn't like to have to revert back to a relatively dim low beam everytime I need to dip my lights.

I've got 6 HID lights on the front of mine, yeah they are expensive, but they are well worth it. Sheer intensity is amazing and they have very very low power consumption, all 6 on only consumes 210 watts. While the prices on Ebay are ok, you can get them even cheaper if you contact the manufacturers directly . You could get it even cheaper if a bunch of you make a large single order to save on the shipping.

They are very durable, i've had both the globes and the ballasts underwater and they always work afterwards. As for their drawbacks, the only real one would be that you should avoid flashing them as it reduces their life span.

    Just my two cents

    Do you have a link?

I was thinking HID low beams with "normal" high beams in the main lights, and HID H3's in the driving lamps for a good compromise set-up. Seen all the ones on eBay, but really wanted to buy the exact model that someone else has used and recommends.

    I do have a contact http://www.hid-china.com
And I bought 2 set's from them as 'samples' and i'm so far very happy with them, they are actually mounted directly onto my bullbar and then run into the actual spot light.

The Dual beam ones work well too, i'm currently using them and all they are is a HID lamp strapped onto a powerful solenoid. So far no worries with them. Altho i'm a little sus how they would hold up with dirt and grit if it were to get inside. I'll see if I can look up the prices I got quoted, they are somewhere on my pc.
