Thread: Another Disco 1 suspension question

I recently got a 2" suspension lift on my 97 Disco. The original suspension had sunk to such an extent that the car now sits about 3" higher than it did before I got the work done.

When you go to your mechanic (if you're not fitting them yourself) make sure they know you plan to add all the accessories so they can put on the correct springs.

Be careful using spacers with aftermarket springs. There is a risk that the spring could compress solid on full bump, before compressing the rubber bump stop.

If this happens your spring perches/chassis may crack.

Also some aftermarket springs gain lift by having a higher spring rate, with the same or similar free length to the stock springs. Although they perform ok on road, with less body roll, they do not articulate so well off road.

those shocks are not to bad in quality and half the price as I got them priced this week $680 but remember there only for 2 inchs if that

if you call lovells they do 40mm spring lift for 140ish a pair so for under 800ish if got your suspension

hi wrex, I just did a 2" lift on my 95 disco v8. I use OME suspension, it now sits 3'' higher just shows how bad the original suspension was. I dont have to many accessories on it yet, but I did allow for a bull bar up front and a storage unit in the back plus towing a trailer.

front springs OME 761

had it fitted last week, drove to Maitland and then back to Wollongong via Newcastle yesterday, found the front end worked really well, but the rear was a bit stiff, when I add the extra weight it will be just about right.

Wrex - did mine a couple of years back with the same OME set-up as Chunk has. Allowed for future fitment of a winch and bar up front, so I got the 761 springs.
Its pretty "heavy duty" in ride quality when unloaded, but gee she goes well with a full load of family plus HD camper trailer on the back - which is the reason you put HD springs in! - The lift looks good as well. (exactly 50mm higher when I got it home) Dont know about clearance over obstacles - I havent had a scrape since I removed those useless side steps!

OME does "stone guards" for the rear Nitrochargers. Get-em. About 40 bucks or so but worth it because I don't have any and saw the bashing the bottom end of the rear shocks got off a high speed stoney road run out of Carnarvon Gorge last holiday.
There is a Camber adjustment kit option available - forget it. The poor buggers at ARB had it for an extra 12 hours trying to get it right. One phone call to the Pacific LR dealership across the road from them and they were told to put the original parts back in and it was perfect after that. ARB refunded me the caster correction kit price and we have been best mates since then.

as matti4556 said forget about the castor kit, especially if you drive an auto as it causes vibrations in the front end.

Thanks everyone for the help, definitely the HD springs would be the way to go for my needs with the 50mm I’m after. I have always considered OME as a good setup, so I guess that will be the one.
I will go to ARB this week to see what the damage would be. I do want to keep it to a budget so I’ll see what they say.

Mine cost me $1385 fitted with wheel alignment and no castor kit.
