I have a '96 V8 Disco and have been very happy with it. The only troubles I have had, have been minor electrical faults, which have been easily fixed, except for one which I gave up on and got the auto sparky to fix for me - it turned out to be a dodgy connection in the starter circuit.
Very comfortable light truck, especially off-road. The V8 is very long-lived if you look after it and change the oil regularly.
I had my Disco service this week(driving to QLD)and the LR mechanic told me to start running diesel oil in it as it has more cleaning agents in it and will stop the donk from sludging up Pat

Being a mechanic in a dealership ive always had the thought that if you want to know about a car then either ask a mechanic and an owner, but not usually the salesman. ive always owned falcons or fairmonts so this will be my first 4wd. ive always like driving BIG cars which is why ive always had a soft spot for the discoverys with their nice v8 rumble. Looking forward to getting into the offroad scene too. i will keep you informed of my progress as the car will be coming in in the next few weeks.

ps we had another discovery traded in this week 93 3.5 manual 200+kays and a couple of stoved in doors. around a grand is what they traded it for. bit too old for me, but someone else has jumped on it. Imagine being able to say your paddock bomb is a v8 discovery
So I need to work at a dealer if I want to get really cheap cars:(
or know someone thats wants to sell---:whistling:

Just a couple more questions.....
Im assuming this car will have a factory immobiliser fitted to it. Any one ever had any problems with them. working in a dealer i see many cars that come in with no start probs.
how do the autos last in discoverys?
I understand now that the drivelines and motors are pretty good, but just wondering about any other bugs that have put peoples cars on towtrucksif you know what i mean.

i hope it doesnt sound like im trying to talk myself out of the car, but i just like to research thoroughly!
I thought my starting problem might have been the immobiliser because my key hasn't worked for a while. Ian from Remote Key in the UK said 90% of the problems he finds, are the key fob wearing out, not the alarm ECU. It is possible to buy new ones and have them programmed by a dealer.
The automatic gearbox has given me no problems; servicing it regularly should keep it in good nick.
