    Mystery fuse

    This is so much fun working on "BB" the SIII, i pulled the blower fan out today cleaned and freed it up (nearly spins in the breeze now) i put it all back, had no power to the wires so i got the trusty manual out found wire colours and pulled some of the dash apart and found the NO coloured wire with a fuse on it and had a 25amp in it and blown, This fuse isnt even in the wire diagram ???, i replaced the fuse with the same amps fuse, turned on the fan yeah we had joy, after about 45sec Matty called me and said the fan stopped, i looked at the fuse and it had melted the soldered ends. Does anyone know what amps fuse this is suposed to be and if it is suposed to be there.

    spose i could wrap the fuse in tin foil then follow the smoke to find it hey

    Making a A Short Light
    Diagnostic Tool

    • Get a sealed beam (old headlight)
    • Connect the high & low beam terminals to one wire
    • Connect the other terminal to another wire
    • wire it in series (in place of the fuse)
    • the headlight will light up while you have a short
    • as soon as the short is fixed, the current will run through the headlight and it will turn off


    This will let you wriggle wires and try to isolate the short.
    it acts like a fuse that lights up instead of blows when you have a short

    Ok i found what is causing the short, it looks like a resistor inside the fan houseing, i took a couple pics so someone maybe able to identify this and if it can be replaced with sometyhing else.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated

    that would be the resistor that controls low speed.

    Bypass it and you will have a 2 speed fan on and off.

    its available from automotive electrical stockist...

    if the fuse is blowing on high speed as well you may have shorted windings in the blower motor... I know I have a sparie thats buried somewhere in one of my parts boxes... If its the later model one the drive motor is the same as the one in a perentine/county.

    AHHH thanks Dave thats what is happening, i will have to look out for a new motor then, or as one site i have found now is to change it to another motor.
